TV listings magazines.
For our task for media we had to analyse three different kinds of TV listings magazines. We had to do this to help us understand the format and the layout of magazines, because we are going to design out own one. We analysed them in a PowerPoint so it’s clear and understandable for the audience as they are nicely laid out. To design your own one you need to understand already existing ones.
The title and pictures on all the covers were always in a similar place, so its easy or the target audience to grab it. This is because they were all in an eye-catching position. We wrote
about why we thought they were in that place, so we can understand, so when it comes to our magazine we know. The picture was bigger
than the title on all the covers; so that you would see that first and pick it up and want to read and buy it. The three magazine covers
were all similar. They all had a title, picture, header, sub header and
mini stories and pictures, so this can attract the target audience to the magazine and it can be bright.

The main difference in the three magazines was the price. I looked at
a highly priced one, middle priced one and a low priced one. The high
priced one you got a glossy thick cover and quite a full content, with the right colours not too bright. The
middle priced one you got quite a nice cover but not nowhere near as
full up content as the high priced one. The low priced ones cover feels
like newspaper and is very thin. It doesn’t have much in it at all and
feels like it would rip easily, with bright colours, which makes it look cheap.

The target audience for the high priced one would be an older person
as its got a lot more than just the TV listings with lots more information to be read. Also it has a higher
reading age. The middle one would be for a family home as its got
some stories about the soaps and TV listings. The reading age of this
one would be middle so not to high but not low. The low priced one is
aimed at someone who doest want to spend a lot of money on just a
magazine and who only wants TV listings. The reading age of is one
would be very low, so it includes a lot of short sentences. But any aged people can read any of these magazines, its whatever suits them.
